Penile Augmentation Surgery

The world of penile augmentation surgery has made a lot of advancements recently. Penile augmentation has become increasingly popular. We hear more and more about it in the media. While many men consider this procedure, is it really necessary and is it the right decision for you?

What is Penile Augmentation Surgery?

Penile augmentation surgery is surgery undergone to increase the length or girth of a penis and oftentimes, both. This is a drastic and somewhat dangerous procedure and should only be considered as a last resort.

When increasing the length of the penis the surgeon uses a Y incision into the lower abdomen and cuts the ligaments that make up the penises length. Cutting these ligaments allows the surgeon to add more length to the penis. Post surgery the patient is required to stretch the penis. The Y incision is known to leave scarring and may only be corrected by further reconstructive surgery.

When increasing the girth of a penis, fat is taken from another part of the body and injected into the shaft of the penis. Some complications with this are disfigurement of the penis due to the width being inconsistent with the size of the head of the penis. Fat may also be reabsorbed into the body and cause abnormalities in the shape of the penis over time. Some, also, say that due to the soft nature of fat, that the penis does not seem to be as hard and almost has a breast-like feel when touched.

What are the Possible Complications with this Surgery?

As with any surgery there is risk involved. The patient undergoes anesthesia for this procedure, therefore risk of death is a possibility. Beyond that, there is no guarantee that the penis will be fully functioning after the procedure. Some patients have reported loss of sensation and/or erectile dysfunction. The recovery time for this procedure is considerable, during which sexual activity is not possible.

Overall, penile augmentation surgery should only be considered in extreme cases after all other options have been tried or considered. Beside the cost being anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000, the risk involved is very severe. With so many other great options for penis enlargement available, they should definitely be considered before such an extreme procedure.
